AREA STAGE Co.
2015/16 Season

Slowgirl

by Greg Pierce

Director: John Rodaz

Opens September 18, 2015

“Can a single act forever define your character?”

When seventeen year-old Becky is shipped-off to her Uncle Sterling’s Costa Rican home – a sanctuary to which he escaped many years ago – the two lost souls navigate contrasting philosophies and a maze of regret. An intimate and elegant glimpse at two characters seeking forgiveness and finding each other. With sharp humor and authenticity, this South Florida premiere reminds us that escape is easy but redemption is hard.

Becky (F) - 17

Sterling (M) - 49

Circle Mirror Transformation

by Annie Baker

Director: John Rodaz

Opens January 15, 2016

In an artsy small town, an unlikely collection of strangers sign up for Marty's "Adult Creative Drama" class: a recently divorced carpenter, a high school junior, a former actress, and Marty's husband. Unfolding like a charmingly funny indie film, the group plays Marty's imaginative (and sometimes awkward) theatre games. But as their relationships develop over the course of the summer, the seemingly silly games generate some real-life drama. This delightful comedy landed on Top Ten lists of The New York Times and The New Yorker.

Marty (F) - 55

James (M) - 60

Schultz (M) - 48

Theresa (F) - 35

Lauren (F) - 16

This is Our Youth
by Kenneth Lonergan

Director: John Rodaz

Opens March 11, 2016

In 1982, on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the wealthy, articulate pot-smoking teenagers who were small children in the '60s have emerged as young adults in a country that has just resoundingly rejected everything they were brought up to believe in. The very last wave of New York City's '60s-style Liberalism has come of age—and there's nowhere left to go. In meticulous, hilarious, and agonizing detail, THIS IS OUR YOUTH follows forty-eight hours of three very lost young souls in the big city at the dawn of the Reagan Era. Funny, painful, and compassionate, THIS IS OUR YOUTH is a living snapshot of the moment between adolescence and adulthood when many young people first go out into the world on their own, armed only with the ideas and techniques they developed as teenagers—ideas and techniques far more sophisticated than their parents ever realize, and far less effectual than they themselves can possibly imagine.

Dennis (M) - 21

Warren (M) - 19

Jessica (F) - 19
