Area Stage’s Inclusion Theatre Project keeps theatre magic alive with Disney’s Peter Pan JR.
CORAL GABLES, FLA. — Area Stage Company’s Inclusion Theatre Project (ITP) will bring Disney’s timeless masterpiece Peter Pan to life at its Rivera Theatre this holiday season. A phenomenal cast of 32 actors with developmental disabilities, alongside 7 student partner actors from ASC’s Conservatory, will come together to impart this tale filled with faith, trust, and pixie dust.
Disney’s Peter Pan JR is a stage adaptation of Disney’s 1953 classic film which is based on J.M. Barrie's play. Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and, with a sprinkle of pixie dust, begin a magical journey across the stars, encountering familiar characters Captain Hook, Smee, Princess Tigerlily, and the Lost Boys along the way. Featuring the iconic songs, "The Second Star to The Right", "You Can Fly", and "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me”, this is the perfect show for the child in all of us... who dreamed of soaring high and never growing up.
This will mark the Inclusion Theatre Project’s second production of 2019, following the summer’s smash-hit success Disney’s Frozen JR. ITP was founded in 2013 by Area Stage in order to further their mission centered on inclusivity, and now serves some 180 students. ITP offers acting, voice, and dance classes in cooperation with local specialized schools for students with developmental disabilities. ITP is funded in part, by the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and the City of Coral Gables.
Disney’s Peter Pan JR. will feature direction by ASC instructor Gabriela Fumero (BFA American Musical and Dramatic Academy), choreography by ITP Coordinator and Royal Academy of Dance certified Irma Becker, and musical direction by Minerva Borjas of Telemundo’s The Voice Kids.
The running time is 1 hour. Performances are at 7:30PM on December 19th & 20th.
